Before today, women living in or near Gainesville, Florida, were not fully protected from pregnancy discrimination. Other areas of Florida interpreted the law as protecting women more than in North Central Florida.
All that has changed, as the Florida Supreme Court in Delva has rendered a decision favoring women who are discriminated against because of their pregnancies. It now permits women to sue in State Court for pregnancy discrimination, a big change in the law, and a big boom to preventing discrimination in the workplace. The full case cite, at least for now, is:
Delva v. The Continental Group, Inc. (SC12-2315), argued on November 7, 2013.
Now, it is much easier for a woman to make out a claim of pregnancy discrimination. Should you, or someone you know, feel like they are discriminated against because of their pregnancy, call our discrimination lawyers for a free consultation.
